Mike, you're one sick puppy thinking anybody would believe that story. If that were true, all you'd have to do is call up some media, and it would be front-page news, nationwide. Call one lawyer, and you'd have a multi-million dollar lawsuit faster than Paris Hilton stripping for a celebrity stud.
I got a letter from the president asking for money one time, and I wrote a letter back telling him to fuck off. The secret service came to my house and beat me, now I am in a wheelchair.
If you wrote a similar reply to the presidential request for funds, save yourself some trouble and don't send it. Regards, Mike
I think Anand's opinion on Education and Politics is good but I would like him to talk a little about himself such as what's he doing now? What we will do tomorrow? etc.
We already you are above excellent and these posts don't prove your wrong.
Easy answer for 16. Simple economics. The guy who didn't get your business last time is going to give you a better deal this time around. Next time it will be Intel giving a better deal to get the business back....
Anand - I think anyone who has to walk through the brickyard this week is in the same boat (Agriculture Awareness Week or something like that). Be sure to pet the cows and goats as you walk by.
Wow, that's funny. Our campus (Clemson) smelled like wet manure as well. The must of put down fertilizer down here too, and the ran made it smell like that.
Anand I agree completely, but I think perhaps you oversimplified the issue. While I can understand you just want to get a general point across there is a lot you didn't take into consideration.
Anyway I've been a daily reader of your blog and I have to say its great, I always saw you as a machine sitting at home toiling away at benchmarks (which you no doubt do), but this blog really personalizes you so well that it makes your articles more meaningful.
I agree... the general populous doesn't know enough about politics to make an informed vote. Sad but true. And I include myself in that group as well. I think that the 2 party system causes more bad then good now. So many issues get clouded due to partisan voting.
I think I'll vote for Nader, just to rebel. Oh, well...
Read "Amusing Ourselves to Death" by Neil Postman to learn about journalism and how its governed by an entertainment ethic. Great book.
Secondly, think about the amount of time us geeks spend reading about technology. Think about how much time men in general spend reading about sports. Compare that to the TINY amount of time anyone spends learning about 1) what the government's policies are and 2) what politicians are doing to change those policies or enact new policies.
I'm a political junkie and I can't keep up with it all. Moreover, political reporting is pathetic because it's all about the GAME of politics (winners vs. losers) rather than about issues IMHO.
I really don't like the "lesser of two evils" cliche that everyone seems to use these days. Who do you want for President, Senate or Congress? Jack Welch? Al Dunlap? Steve Jobs? Steve Ballmer? How did those people rise through the ranks? Jobs is a total jerk, Dunlap is ruthless, Ballmer is a bean counter. Politicians aren't any different.
I recently read: "The Future of Freedom: Illiberal Democracy at Home and Abroad" by Fareed Zakaria He that famous journalist for Newsweek
His thesis is that our country was founded as a Republic but has turned into a voting, popular opinion democracy. In a Republic, you elect people to represent you, that you trust can exercise good judgement. They do not vote based upon polls and because certain interest groups support them. He then goes into the growth of special interest groups and how they control the political processs. He makes a case that in the most recent 50 years many, like you Anand and myself, have become disallusioned with the political process for the foregoing reasons.
As far as I understand it, ATi will have two different parts: R420 will be AGP 8x only and R423 will be PCI-Express only. NV40 will use a bridge solution, allowing it to be used on both platforms. My guess is ATi will announce R420 first and then R423 when Intel announces their PCI-E chipsets. As for which company has the better approach, the jury is still out. Time will tell. If you're someone like me who plans to build an entirely new system around R450 or R500 a year from now, you certainly want to go with the PCI-Express version.
NV40 is 8x in AGP mode, as is the R420. In PCI-E mode, the R420 runs at 16x PCI-E speeds, and the NV40 runs at ~16x AGP speed(the short distance between the HSI and the NV40 means Nvidia can cheat the AGP spec, and speed up the bus).
